The rainy season is at its peak no doubts and sometimes it difficult to choose what weather to prefer. The cool weather comes with getting wet and floods (you don't need to put on the generator for electricity for a good night sleep) while the dry season comes with unbearable heat and more money spent on power.
June has its own seasonal foods which are not just delicious for consumption but can also help our bodies medicinally too. Though mangoes are not in abundance as they were some two months ago, you can be sure of fresh, sweet and juicy oranges whose Vitamin C can help boost your immune system to fight cold.
Can you close your eyes and imagine standing by a roasted corn and pear seller on a cold day? The warmth can be refreshing. Corn is populrly enjoyed with coconut, pear or with groundnuts. The pear is usually soaked in boiling water for about a minute to soften before eating. It can also be raosted too and just eaten like that.
Boiled groundnuts are also in season and the best part of boiled groundnuts is the fact that the sellers can actually bring it to our doorstep for you to buy. Remember that sometimes, the groundnuts have been exposed to dust and dirt in the process of being carried around all day. Try not to put the shells directly into your mouth when eating or better still, give it a quick rinse and if possible boil again in salted water for about ten minutes and kill any germs
Other foods in season include pepperfruit, avocado and pineapples. It is also a good time to make pap ( akamu) since corn in cheap now.
